Thoughts and prayers are not enough.

Right-wing Pastor Robert Jeffress has the answer to gun violence. He admits that thoughts and prayers are not enough. What we need is action:

I’m not arguing against legislation, but I’m saying that one thing we can do is to quit this devaluation of human life in our society that is seen by the glorification of violence in our culture, by the mass slaughter of a whole class of citizens — the unborn. By teaching our children that they’re nothing but an evolutionary accident instead of teaching our children that they are created by God, they are of value to God, and they are accountable to God for their actions.

So it’s not the easy availability of semi-automatic weapons or the lack of mental health care which is responsible for mass shootings but abortion and teaching evolution.

Like all those of his kind he doesn’t understand evolution; we are not merely “accidents” but the result of a millennia long process where millions of life forms have lived and died. In the words of Charles Darwin:

There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.

What do you think of Pastor Jeffress’ solution to the violence plaguing America?
