Fired Florida worker charged with making hoax shooter 911 call

PALM SPRINGS — Authorities say a Florida man who was recently fired from a landscaping business falsely reported that an active shooter was at his former workplace.

The Palm Beach Post reports that 28-year-old Jeremy Riley was arrested last week and changed with making a false report.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says SWAT members surrounded Beacon Irrigation and Lighting in Palm Springs as employees left the building with their hands above their heads.

A threatening voice message left with the company led investigators to Riley. An office manager told deputies that Riley had been fired less than an hour before the false 911 call for showing up late on his second day of work.

A judge has ordered that Riley undergo a mental health evaluation.
