Trans schoolchildren will attend sex education classes with the gender they identify with, leaked guidelines have revealed.
The draft document, created by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) and seen by the Sunday Times, is expected to be introduced in schools across England and Wales from October. It’s aim is to help teachers and school staff protect transgender pupils at both primary and secondary level.
The document also advises that trans boys and girls be allowed to participate in personal, social and health education lessons with the gender they identify with. It states that trans schoolchildren should use changing rooms that match their gender identity, while pupils who are uncomfortable should have the option to change privately.
