Tallahassee is drunkest city in Florida, according to 24/7 Wall Street Ranking

Tallahassee has been labeled the drunkest city in the state, according to a ranking released Friday by 24/7 Wall St., a web-based financial news aggregate company.

The site, which released a report spotlighting the city with the heaviest drinkers in each state, says roughly 1 in 5 (20.9%) Tallahassee residents admitted to excessive or binge drinking on a regular basis, more than the state average of 17.5%.

It also found alcohol-related deaths were 32.7% — 8% higher than the state share of 24.7%.

“The CDC defines excessive alcohol use as binge drinking (five or more drinks on one occasion for men, four or more for women) or heavy drinking (15 or more drinks per week for men, eight or more for women) — and notes that more than half of these deaths are due to binge drinking,” the ranking report said.
