There’s new reporting this afternoon that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo took part in the now-infamous call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky.
[The disclosure] ties the State Department more closely to the House impeachment inquiry.
Mr. Pompeo’s participation on the call hasn’t been previously reported. Last week, a State Department official disputed the contention in a complaint filed under federal whistleblower laws by a Central Intelligence Agency officer that another top State Department official, counselor Ulrich Brechbuhl, listened in on the call.
Last week Rudy Giuliani talked about his contacts with people in the State Department as he continued his Ukraine work. This weekend he said that Pompeo was “aware” of what he was doing.
Last Friday House committees subpoenaed Pompeo for relevant documents in their impeachment inquiry.
