Why a Cross?

Why a cross? Why did God choose to crucify his Son? To me, because it was visible, humiliating and long.

“It pleased the LORD to bruise him.” Isa 53:10

The crucifixion of the Christ was a mostly local execution. He was lifted up from the earth- a visual chiseled into the memories of the eye witnesses. (See Psa 118:27.)

Jesus was humiliated. On display to soldiers, disciples, friends, family and accusers, he was taunted for his helplessness and cursed for his blasphemy. His followers were stunned and scattered.

The sacrifice of God took hours. The Cross held the Son of man a long time, as he lifted himself up for breath. Yet his heart gave out first.

Why did God choose crucifixion?

How would you handle Jesus?
