Schools have noted many students dropped school lunches, and the amount of wasted food increased dramatically.
The rollback will allow the schools more flexibility in what they serve for lunch and should encourage students who do not like arugula salads an alternative to McDonald’s for the noontime meal.
The announcement was made through the Agriculture Department.
They released the following statement:
“Schools and school districts continue to tell us that there is still too much food waste and that more common-sense flexibility is needed to provide students nutritious and appetizing meals. We listened and now we’re getting to work.”
The rules were changed by Barack Obama using an Executive Order and were immediately panned by many school districts across the country.
It is not realistic to believe students will eat for lunch things they will not touch away from school.
