7 takeaways from the Democratic debate in New Hampshire

Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN) Pete Buttigieg and Bernie Sanders paced the Democratic presidential field in the Iowa caucuses — and on Friday night, five of their leading rivals tried to blunt their momentum.

The eighth Democratic presidential debate, this one ahead of Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary, turned into a pile-on against the former South Bend, Indiana, mayor and the Vermont senator.

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar was the most direct in her challenges. But Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren dinged Buttigieg over his answer on marijuana arrests in South Bend. Former Vice President Joe Biden sharply criticized Sanders’ 1990s votes on gun control. Businessman Tom Steyer played his most central role in any debate yet. And entrepreneur Andrew Yang took a shot at Buttigieg.
