The Jesus Family Tomb, Part I?

Hi

The Jesus Family Tomb, Part I?

The Book “Gli Scavi del Dominus Flevit/The Excavations of The Lord Wept,” is about the discovery of the Tomb of Peter in Jerusalem, by two Monks. The book with Italian text first printed in 1958 at the Tipografía del PP. Francescani, in Jerusalem. Authored by P. B. Bagatti OFM (Order of Friars Minor) (1905-1990) and J. T. Milik* (1922-2006), both Italian archaeologist and Catholic priest of the Franciscan Order. With both monks highly respected in their fields of archaeology.

* JT Milik, was the well-known decipherer of the documents of Qumran, who dealt with the inscriptions of the Peter ossuary (bone box).

We go back to 1953 for the discovery of what is now called “Peter’s Tomb.” Where an ossuary was discovered in a 2,000-year-old Judeo-Christian cemetery while renovation the (1861 built) Franciscan Monastery, Dominus Flevit, the ossuary Aramaic inscription read Simon bar Jona.

However, this post is not on Peter’s Tomb discovered in Jerusalem in 1953, which is a story already told.

This post is about the documentary “The Lost Tomb of Jesus.” After the documentary ended, additional information has come forward. With evidence from scholars of antiquity as well as those who took part in the documentary. Also, from forensic laboratories, such as a top CSI lab and a Canadian University lab.

The labs tested several unnamed samples taken from various ossuaries (bone boxes).

Some of the participating scholars were:

Dr Shimon Gibson, Archaeologist from the Albright Institute, Jerusalem. The late scholars Prof. Francois Bovon of Harvard Divinity School, he was the Frothingham Professor of the History of Religion. Frank Moore Cross, Professor Emeritus, a Harvard world-renowned expert in ancient writing. Last, but not least was Prof. James D. Tabor Biblical scholar and Prof. of Ancient Judaism and Early Christianity at Uni of NC at Charlotte.

The documentary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qyrrdoqspdg co-produced in 2007 and directed by James Cameron, the famous Canadian filmmaker. The topic is about the 1980 discovery of the 2,000-year-old Talpiot/Talpiyot Tomb, located in southeastern Jerusalem. Which contained ten ossuaries believed to belong to the Jesus Family. (Although there were ten ossuaries in the Jesus Family Tomb in 1980. However, during the transportation from the tomb site to the IAA (Israel Antiquities Authority) warehouse one ossuary (the tenth) went missing in 1980, which was presumed stolen, as only nine accounted for in the inventory of the IAA.

The documentary should be seen in its entirety, prior to reading the new evidence that Prof. Tabor has given. https://jamestabor.com/new-evidence-on-the-james-ossuary-and-its-probable-connection-to-the-talpiot-jesus-tomb/)

The use of ossuaries by Jews only lasted for approximately one hundred years, ending around 70 CE, when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem. Of the nine ossuaries located, five in total had inscriptions with four having no recognised inscriptions or markings over that the artisan marks.

The Gospel of Matthew 13:55 tells us that he had four brothers James, Joseph/Jose, Simon and Judas.  We also find in the scriptures and Christian writings that he had two sisters Solome Miriam.

What is essential about the ossuaries is that four of the five had Aramaic inscriptions and one had a Greek inscription.

The first ossuary had the inscription in Aramaic, which read Yeshua bar Yosef/Jesus, son of Joseph. If it is indeed the Jesus tomb, then the remaining eight ossuaries would have to belong to members of the Jesus family.

The second inscription on one of the other ossuaries read Maria (Mary in antiquity).

The third ossuary had the inscription Mattia as a short form of Matthew, a name that does not fit with anyone within the known Jesus Family? Biblical scholars believe Mattia was not a blood member of the family. However, there is reason to believe that there were many Matthews within the Jesus family tree. One need look no further that the Lukan genealogy of Jesus.

The fourth ossuary produced the Aramaic name Yosa/Yose, which is one of the four brothers of Jesus.

Well, the story of Jesus’ Tomb does not finish here! To be continued in Part II

The information is out there and from the documentary, I sensed suppression from Jewish authority IAA, who accepted more readily Jewish antiquity finds than those of Judeo-Christian ones.  Which in some cases ossuaries were stored higgledy-piggledy under someone’s desk, and had been there for decades unnoticed? The same can be said of the Catholic Church which has suppressed the so-called Peter’s Tomb.  I do hope that some of you will find the time to check my citations and see a most valuable piece of fact-based religious documentary using up to date technology.

What do you say, does this information make your belief stronger or not?
