The religious concept of eternal life seems like unbearable torture to me.

A recent post inquired as to whether humans are mortal or immortal. It would seem that the real question is would you even be interested in immortality?

Think about it….forever is a long, long, long time. Even a billion years is an inconceivable time frame; if a long life is 100 years, a billion years is 10 million lifetimes-itself inconceivable. And “eternity” is billions upon billions upon billions, ad nauseam.

What would you do with all that time? Could you even stand it? Would you become literally insane with boredom?

As a non-believer, the though of doing anything, even the things I love obsessively, for eternity seems horrifying, not soothing to me.

If your religious belief promises an eternal afterlife, how do you imagine you’ll spend that time? Where would you go, and what would you do? Do you have a sense of how long forever and immortality really is?
