Little Richard, the singer best known for the hits “Tutti Frutti” and “Good Golly Miss Molly,” has died, according to multiple reports.

The pianist and singer’s son, Danny Penniman, confirmed he passed away at the age of 87 to Rolling Stone. A cause of death is still unknown.

Born Richard Wayne Penniman on Dec. 5, 1932, the rock icon first burst onto the music scene in the 1950s with hits like “Tutti Frutti,” “Long Tall Sally,” and “Good Golly Miss Molly.”

The Georgia native was known for his bold lifestyle choices, often decked out in sequins and makeup on stage. His songs inspired some of the greats in rock and roll. The Beatles recorded a number of his songs, including “Long Tall Sally,” Rolling Stone said.

Little Richard was one of 12 children. He left home at age 13 following accusations from his father that he was gay. He ended up moving in with a white family in Macon, Georgia, said the report.
