JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala (WBMA) — Trussville police made a second arrest involving men accused of shooting out the doors to a sporting goods store and then stealing thousands of dollars of merchandise.
Court records showing 23-year-old Willie Anthony Furniss posted $15,300 bond Tuesday after his arrest for the misdemeanor riot charge and a felony burglary charge for the June 1st crime at Academy Sports on Gadsden Highway in Trussville.
Trussville investigators used surveillance video and a video from Facebook to place Furniss at the scene with two dozen people following a night of protests and rioting in the Birmingham area.
Furniss’ arrest comes four-weeks after the arrest of Derrick Carvel Bryant, Jr., who was arrested for riot and burglary charges after investigators said he tripped over the door fleeing the Academy Sports store the morning of June 1st.
Court records show the group of people used pistols to shoot out the front doors to the store to gain entry where they went to a gun case only to find it empty before then grabbing nearly $5,000 worth of other merchandise.
