I Tertius

If you could imagine my opening sentences are like the opening of a Star Wars film, where we see the scrolled narrative fading in the furthermost outreaches of space! Then, instead of seeing Darth Vadar solo-piloting a First Order Special Forces TIE Fighter heading for a distant Death Star. You see a blonde blue-eyed man upon a cloud, with a pulsating red heart, stuck on his chest.

Well, one, do you jump to your feet and shout “may the force be with you Jezus—Hallelujah we love you!

Or two, are the words coming out of your mouth full of expletives (#$@&%*!)! Because some dude riding on a cloud has ruined the film that you have been waiting to see for weeks!  Nothing is right, your bucket of pop-corn has started to taste like cardboard and your extra-large Coke has lost its fizz.

Well, if it’s two then believe it or not researching Christianity is like that with its contradictions and its controversies.

§

Controversial

The Bible contains passages about rape, pornographic, murder and slavery that Evangelicals conveniently refuse to acknowledge.  Yet, they are all there in the so-called good book for all to see!

“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a lightsaber...Oh, sorry sword.[Matthew 10:34 NIV]

And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,[Mark 9:47 NIV]

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters–yes, even their own life–such a person cannot be my disciple.”[Luke 14:26 NIV ]

20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. [Ezekiel 23:20, NIV]  However, for the children’s Bible they have toned it down a smidgen!

20 She wanted men who behaved like animals in their sexual desire. [Ezekiel 23:20 International Children’s Bible (ICB)]

Paul in Roman 16, where he is telling the Romans Gentile congregation to assist and aid his disciples.  He first mentions the women Phebe, Priscilla, Aquila, Mary, then he goes on to the men with some being his kinsmen, then it goes on and on. In verse 21 we read about some more kinsmen—Timotheus my workfellow, and Lucius, and Jason, and Sosipater, my kinsmen, salute you.  However, the very next verse is a bombshell!  I Tertius, who wrote this epistle, salute you in the Lord. [Romans 16:22]   So, we find that Paul did not write Romans, because a man named Tertius wrote it!

§
