Amazon drops shoe with N-word in description following outrage

Amazon has finally removed a listing for a UK shoe company after receiving backlash from a British lawmaker over its use of the N-word in its online description.

“Just buying brown brogues tonight leads to this racist micro aggression. Is it 2020 or 1720? Please ⁦⁦@amazon⁩ take it down,” tweeted UK Labor Party official David Lammy, who reportedly discovered the inflammatory footwear listing while shopping.

An accompanying photo shows the now-removed ad for a “Formal Oxford” by Floren, the color of which was described as “N - - - - r-brown.” The ad had allegedly been on the site since March, per Lammy’s account.

Interestingly, the rest of the description reads like a normal ad, with the lace-up being touted as “a great choice to wear” for every occasion from work to weddings. However, the abundance of grammatical mistakes in the copy has led some to believe the racist slur was the work of an online troll.
