Ask President Donald Trump why he opposes efforts to expand absentee balloting in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, and he invariably cites the recent voter fraud in Paterson.
One in five ballots in Paterson, 20%, were thrown out, most of them because they were improperly filled out, not because they were illegally cast.
“When it’s done absentee ballots or in mail-in ballots, the reason why it’s so easy to find out is because you literally have a paper trail,” U.S. Sen Cory Booker, D-N.J., said Sunday on CNN’s”State of the Union.” “It was easy to expose and to hold people accountable.”

“President Trump is twisting reality in a shameless attempt to support his corrupt agenda, which is to rob Americans from exercising their sacred right to vote,” said Bawadden Sayed, a spokesman for Let America Vote, an advocacy group supporting efforts to make it easier to vote.
“What happened in Paterson was the exception, not the norm. If anything, the situation in Paterson proved that these cases are rare and there are safeguards to detect wrongdoing.”
