Joseph of Arimathea and The Magic Circle

R&I – FS

Hi

Joseph of Arimathea and The Magic Circle

Since the time of semi-legendary Moshe Rabbenu (better known as Moses), Magicians and Sorcerers in the Middle-East were doing big business albeit unlawful according to Jewish traditions. With Egypt being the paramount state which confined Magic know-how within its border. That was until Jesus took the magic out of Egypt in the form Charms scratched (Tattoos) on his skin if we are to believe in ancient Jewish texts. [Babylonian Talmud: Tractate Shabbat folia 104b] see under 104b Gemara, quotes 18, 19, and 20 and same number footnote in link.https://www.halakhah.com/shabbath/shabbath_104.html

Yet, the ancient Jews were also very adept at magic themselves. The Talmud and other Hebrew works and Christian text and early art, refer to Jesus as a Magician. However, this post is not about Jesus. This post is about the Jewish Magic Circle, better known as the Sanhedrin or the Great Sanhedrin and one illustrious member. The Sanhedrin was a council of leading Jews (Mk 13:9, Mt 10:17), or the Jewish council at Jerusalem, the Sanhedrin (Aramaic form of synedrion), the High Court, the Senate, composed of 71 men comprising members of high-priestly families, Pharisees learned in the laws and a lay element of Elders. [The Great Sanhedrin met in Jerusalem and basically lacked jurisdiction in Galilee and Samaria](Dr Maclean, Hasting’s Dict. of Ap. Ch.) https://biblehub.com/greek/4892.htm

The term Sanhedrin is from the Greek word συνέδριον/synédrion, Strongs 4892, meaning sitting together (Greek authors from Herodotus down, any assembly (especially of magistrates, judges, ambassadors), whether convened to deliberate or to pass judgment).

Every 71 members of the Sanhedrin https://www.sefaria.org/Sanhedrin.17a?lang=bi were Masters of Magic and Sorcery, sitting in judgement within the walls of the Jerusalem Temple.

My last post was on one such a member, Joseph of Arimathea, member of the Sanhedrin Council. Owing to his status, one can give him the epithets, Man of Means and High Stature, Man of Wisdom, Elder, Master Sorcerer, Polyglot and probably we can add Witch Finder General.

We only hear of Joseph of Arimathea during the burial of Jesus and as a friend and confidant. However, a Jewish Sanhedrin Council member linked to a renegade such as Jesus would have been unheard of or at least would have been political suicide. One has to remember that the Sanhedrin Council was anti-Jesus and anti-Jesus followers and anti-Magicians and Sorcerers and anti-anything that went against Jewish Laws.

It does not take much imagination if such a man as Joseph existed. He was at the crucifixion of Jesus, for another reason. Other than the accounts of the New Testament. What do I mean, well, his function was to bring wrongdoers to justice. Not forgetting that Jesus was tried and sentenced for being a Malefactor. John 18:30 KJV

So, what was the law for being a Malefactors/Evildoers? Both Jewish and Roman law state the Death Penalty.

Jewish Law

Jewish tradition states that Jesus was convicted of sorcery and enticed Israel to apostasy. [Talmud Sanhedrin 43a, with the death sentence carried out to Jewish Law. Which, conformed to the Sacred Temple Scroll (150-125 BCE), and Deuteronomy 21:22-23.

Jewish tradition also states that Jesus died a Jewish death, not a Roman death. This is confirmed by the New Testament (NT) in Acts 5:30; Acts 10:39; 1 Peter 2:24; Acts 13:29 and Galatians 3:13.  That Jesus was Hung, on a tree.

Roman Law

Roman law Code Codex Justinianus IX. 18. 5 is based on laws for Malefactors, which were perceived to be Magicians.  With Rome demanded the death penalty for all Malefactors.

  1. 9.18.5. The Emperor Constantius and Caesar Julian to the People.

No one shall consult an haruspex, a diviner, or a soothsayer, and wicked confessions made to augurs and prophets must cease. Chaldeans, magicians, and others who are commonly called malefactors.  On account of the enormity of their crimes shall no longer practice their infamous arts. Let all curiosity relating to divination be at an end, for anyone who hereafter refuses obedience to Our orders shall be put to death, and laid low with the avenging sword.

Joseph of Arimathea according to Christian scripture was a Sanhedrin, then it follows that he was everything it rules requires of its Members, do you agree or not?

If you answer NO…Why, as the facts are there for all to see?

Can a Sanhedrin who has been chosen to protect the Law, be friends with a renegade he has sworn to put to death?

Take care!
