This is why you don’t negotiate with terrorists.
The Fairfax County School District in Virginia, the 10th largest school district in the US, is being held hostage by the insane demands of the local teachers union, the Fairfax Education Association.
Schools all across the nation are open, full scale, five days a week. And there have been almost no issues in the states where schools have been back the longest. But some teachers unions are still holding out, refusing to come back to work in-person until their absurd demands are met.
This particular union in Fairfax bullied their way to the front of the Covid vaccination line, receiving vaccinations this week. Now that the vaccination is available to these teachers, you’d think they’d come back to work, right?
Wrong.
Not only do they oppose returning to school now, the president of FEA, the Fairfax Union, stated before the school board that, even though they’ve received preferential treatment in vaccinations, they are opposed to returning to full-time in-person school IN THE FALL!
And the reason for this? They want to wait until ALL THE CHILDREN are vaccinated for Covid-19 before returning.
Move the goal posts much?
Guess what? That will never happen because kids don’t need a Covid vaccine. Best estimates say it will be 2022 before vaccines are distributed for children, due to the fact that they are a low priority because of their high levels of recovery from the virus.
The academic impact of being out of in-person school for nearly two years will be devastating to many students and families dependent on public schooling. And as the Open Fairfax County Public Schools advocacy group points out THOUSANDS of students are leaving the public schools in that system because of the lack of in-person instruction.
It seems almost as if the Fairfax Education Association only has one thing in mind, their own political power, and don’t seem all that concerned with, I don’t know, EDUCATING children.
