ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — As we’ve been reporting, the state health department released a statewide number of COVID-19 nursing home deaths, but the Empire Center is requesting a breakdown of how many deaths occurred on *each* day, in *each* home, since the pandemic began.
In the wake of the bombshell report from State Attorney General Letitia James, we learned New York had undercounted those deaths by up to 50 percent. The most up to date data shows the nursing home COVID-19 death total at nearly 15,000 fatalities.
Today’s deadline stems from a decision handed down by a judge last week, ordering the Cuomo administration to comply with a “freedom of information law” request first submitted early last august. The state must also pay legal fees associated with the suit. Tonight – the empire center says DOH has not fully complied with the court order.
