God’s Promise and Covenant With King David 2 Samuel 7.

Hi

God’s Promise and Covenant With King David 2 Samuel 7.

According to the Hebrew Old Testament the Exodus from Egypt of the ancient Israelites whose God gave them the lands of the Canaanites during the so-called time of Moses, whenever that was and if there was such a person.

However, rabbinical Judaism calculated the lifespan of Moses corresponding to 1391–1271 BCE; Jerome suggested 1592 BCE, and James Ussher suggested 1571 BCE as his birth year. The scholarly consensus sees Moses as a legendary figure while retaining the possibility that a Moses-like figure existed. As you can see from the above dates there is a 200-year difference between the rabbinic date of Moses as being 14th-century BCE, and those of Christian scholars as being 16th-century BCE. (Which would mean by rabbinic sources that the exodus started in 1311 BCE, 40 years before the supposed death of Moses in 1271 BCE, with the exodus reaching the Promised Land across the River Jordan in the same year.)

For myself, I work to the rabbinic dates as it is their faith and scriptures that are used, as I find Christianity has its own agenda on religious matters!

The Doom of The Davidic Covenant Just 50 Years After After God’s Promise!

Saul became the first king of a United Israel and ruled from 1079 BCE to 1007 BCE. Then David the shepherd boy rose to become king in 1004BCE to 970 BCE. God made a covenant with David saying that his descendants would rule forever on his death. However, 50 years later the United kingdom was over separated into two distinct kingdoms in 931 BCE, owing to a revolt by 10 Israelites tribes. The split caused the birth of the new Kingdom of Israel in the North, retaining the ancient epithet of Israelites for its people. Its first king was Jeroboam I (931-910 BCE) from the tribe of Ephraim, he was not of royal blood or from the House of David. The other new Kingdom was Judah in the South, in which the people adopted the epithet Yehudi, meaning “from the Kingdom of Judah.” Its first king was Rehoboam (931-913 BCE) of royal blood from the House of David.  We know the Yehudi, better by their Englisce translation of their name—Jews.

*(I should mention that the first record of people called Israel was found on the Merneptah Stele as having a date of 1208 BCE.  See Biblical Archaeology on a recent discovery of the name.

https://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/daily/ancient-cultures/ancient-israel/does-the-merneptah-stele-contain-the-first-mention-of-israel/. Also, those that have read the OT will be familiar with the term DIASPORA (meaning the dispersal of people from their homelands—in the case at hand the diaspora of Israelites and Yehudi/Jews (Israelites 732-721 BCE; Yehudi 599-583 BCE and Jews 136 CE-1948). The Doom of God’s Davidic Covenant yet Christianity still maintains the Messiah myth!

Israelites

The Israelite diaspora was completed in 721 BCE 2 Kings 17:1-6. The king of Assyrians then populated the lands of the Israelites with Pagan peoples from Mesopotamia 2 Kings 17:24

This means that the Israelites occupied the ancient lands of the Canaanites for just 550 years. In archaeology, we can say that before 1271 BCE any finds (buildings, artefacts, etc.) will be Canaanite and anything dated post 721 BCE, would be from the people that replaced the lost Israelites. However, in our psyche through religious indoctrination, whether Jewish or Christian we take the view that they perpetually held the land. The rabbinic date of Moses’ exodus ended probably 1271 BCE and the date of Jewish reunification as 1948. We have a period of possibly 3,200 + years! Yet, the Israelites’ history lasted only a fraction (550 years) of that time as stated above. The people or nations that replaced the Israelites in 721 BCE, eventually took the Torah as their scriptures and are named in the NT as the Samaritans. The Samaritan sacred Mount Gerizim that God proclaimed in Deuteronomy 11:29 was also home to their sacred Temples and the Ark of the Covenant Joshua 8:33. The Temple on Mount Gerizim was built to honour the God of Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Aaron, Moses, Joshua, Gideon, Samuel and Eliezer to name but a few. It was destroyed in 112/111 BCE! Not by an empire-building enemy, but by the Judean Priestly Class, under the leadership of the Hasmonean priest-king, John Hyrcanus (164-104 BCE) aka Yohanan Cohen Gadol (John the High Priest). If I was a believer, I would say that the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple in 70 CE, was their God’s retribution for the destruction of the Holy Mount Gerizim. That said the Samaritans have lived in what was the kingdom of Israel/Samaria longer than the Israelites, some 2,742 years as to today

Yehudi or Jews

The new kingdom of Judah consisted of two tribes, Judah and Benjamin. However, the tribe of Benjamin was short-lived, as it was annihilated by the other Israelite tribes between the 931 BCE and 732 BCE Judges 20:41-48, and its lands were annexed by the tribe of Judah. By 599 BCE the same fate befell the Israelites 122 years earlier when Nebuchadnezzar conquered the kingdom of Judah and deported the Yehudi to Babylon. The royals were slaughtered and the last king of Judah was blinded and imprisoned, dying c. 561 BCE, which was the end of the Davidic bloodline. Although, the damage to the bloodline was done between 849-842 When Jehoram had all his brothers put to the sword 2 Chronicles 21:4, and in 840 BCE when Queen Athaliah (reigned (840-36 BCE) murdered all the royal heirs of David except the infant Joash aka Jehoash.  2 Kings 11:1-2 and 2 Chronicles 22:10-23:21  So much for the election of David, the unconditional divine promise that David, his dynasty would rule forever, and the David dynasty’s continuity on the Jerusalem throne 2 Chronicles 21:7. Not forgetting that all this was said with a United Israel before it became two Nations under God! Then centuries later the Christians would also make a dogs-dinner over Jesus’ supposed Davidic messiahship! Then you have Paul claiming to be from the tribe of Benjamin, which had ceased to exist the better part of a millennia before his birth. Surely, the God of Abraham failed in his covenant with David, which had severe repercussions down the line to Jesus. On his messiahship, Son of God statues and especially his genealogy in Mathew and Luke as being from the House of David.

*Today we call all people of Judaism, whether they live in modern-day Israel or anywhere in the world—Jews. However, as I stated they were different in antiquity depending on where they lived.
