The Sun vs Son of God!

R&I – FS

Hi

The Sun vs Son of God!

Most Christians today see Jesus as the ‘Son of God’ or the ‘Son of Righteousness;’ or Son of Most High,’ etc. Names that we are all familiar with the scriptures and Christian text. Bible study blogs agree with these names especially the ‘Son of God.’

Titles that had not been there in early antiquity, with the early Christians believing like the ancient Egyptians that the Sun was numerous unum deum (the number one God). Names for Jesus in antiquity were ‘Sol verus’; Sol Iustitiae (Sun of Righteousness); ‘Sol Justitiae’ (“Sun of Justice”), later also Sol Salutis (“Sun of Salvation”), usually a symbol and metaphor for Christ, according to late antiquity and Byz. exegesis of Malachi 4:2

The Sun is a Trinity in More Ways Than One

In its makeup of three main parts, it has a core, a radiative zone, and a convective zone.

It has an atmosphere consisting of three parts, a photosphere, a chromosphere, and a corona.

It has three unusual surface features, sunspots, solar prominences, and solar flares. —https://www.thecatholictreasurechest.com/sun.htm

Clement of Alexandria (150-215 CE) Used The Term Sun in Place of Son.

For the Sun of Righteousness, who drives His chariot over all, pervades equally all humanity, like His Father, who makes His sun to rise on all men, and distils on them the dew of the truth. He has changed sunset into sunrise, and through the cross brought death to life; and having wrenched man from destruction, He has raised him to the skies, transplanting mortality into immortality, and translating earth to heaven — He, the husbandman of God, Hail, O Light! For in us, buried in darkness. [Clement of Alexandria, Exhortation to the Heathen Ch.II.]

Gildas the Wise (500-570 CE)

Even one of my nations forefather, Gildas the Wise used the term in the 6th century CE when he wrote: Meanwhile these islands, stiff with cold and frost, and in a distant region of the world, remote from the visible sun, received the beams of light, that is, the holy precepts of Christ, the true Sun [sic], showing to the whole world his splendour, not only from the temporal firmament, but from the height of heaven, which surpasses everything temporal, at the latter part, as we know, of the reign of Tiberius Caesar [Emperor of Rome 14-37 CE], by whom his religion was propagated without impediment, and death threatened to those who interfered with its professors.[Gildas De Excidio Brittaniae, ch. 8] the [ ] with highlights are mine. Also, in the chapter, Gildas is saying that Christianity came to the Brythoniaid/Britons at the latter part of emperor Tibirus’ reign. Agreeing with this the Vatican historian and scholar Cardinal Baronius (1538-1607 CE), in his Annales Ecclesiastici for entry for the year 35 CE, wrote that Christianity came to Britain in this year.

Be nice and comment on part or all the Post?

Should Christianity have maintained the Sun (Sol) instead of changing it to Son? Such as Sun of God!
