Lawyers for convicted murderer, Derek Chauvin, have filed court documents alleging that their client was deprived of a fair trial because the jury saw a video of him killing George Floyd, therefore making an unfair presumption that he, you know, killed him.
One of the lawyers, Chuck Williams said, “As soon as the jury saw that footage of our client killing George Flloyd, we knew that they would be influenced by it and it would not make our client look that great.
“We were shown to be correct because our client was found guilty of murder and manslaughter. It is clear that there is a direct correlation between them seeing the footage of our murdering killing George Flloyd, and reaching the verdict that he murdered George Flloyd.
“Had there not been any video footage showing our client murdering George Floyd, then the jury could not have been influenced by it.
“The unfairness is clear.
“It reminds me of another case we are also appealing. In that case, our client was convicted of murdering someone based on the fact that he was found standing over the deceased, holding the murder weapon in his hand, covered in the victim’s blood, and repeatedly shouting, ‘I’m glad I killed the bastard!
“Again, the jury heard all this and were clearly influenced by it.
“Compelling evidence of guilt being presented in court is a slippery slope, you mark my words. How can any American expect a fair trial if juries are to be exposed to evidence that they definitely did it?”
