Dragon Man

If you haven’t heard by now, you have a new relative. No, you’re not getting a cousin-in-law or a baby. Instead, researchers have announced the discovery of a cousin of humanity previously unknown to science: Homo longi, or Dragon Man.

The fossil in question is a skull discovered almost 90 years ago in northeastern China. After being handed over to scientists in 2018, they spent the past three years studying the find, announcing the results yesterday. Dragon Man’s skull is at least 146,000 years old and, so far, represents a species that may be closer to our own Homo sapiens than even Neanderthals were.

That’s fascinating and all, but what does that have to do with religion? Recently, there have been a couple of OPs in favor of intelligent design. My question is this.

What use would an intelligent designer of life on Earth have for branch species like Neanderthals and Dragon Man if they were only going to go extinct in the end?
