Is America on the Brink of Creating a Christian Theocracy?

Looking daily at the BNR news it is disturbing, with so many States of the Union producing religious bigotry laws against women rights, and the LGBTQA+ community. Laws once passed in favour of women’s rights and the gay community, but now repealed for religious laws.  In a never ending spiral of hate that sees anti-humanitarian laws being enacted. Pushing America further and further back into the Stone-Age, and away from the rest of the democratic world.  With lawmakers choosing the laws of an invisible deity over the common secular laws of man.   Once upon a time, politician enacted laws good for the community, now, it is a conspiracy of the evangelical Christians to infiltrate government to establish their imbecilic biblical laws. Laws that they could not hope to succeed from the pulpit or evangelizing at people’s doors.  Legislation written if we accept the Old Testament more than 2,000 years ago by the hands of zealot men, and not a God. Men who would be seen as a band of roving idiots in our modern age.  Laws ignorant of the needs of the people of today!  The founding father’s must be rolling in their graves to see what the hardline Christians have done to their so-call Bill of Rights! Rights that were fought for with the blood of American men and women.

If I could conceive that the general government might ever be so administered as to render the liberty of conscience insecure, I beg you will be persuaded, that no one would be more zealous than myself to establish effectual barriers against the horrors of spiritual tyranny, and every species of religious persecution.” ~Founding Father George Washington, letter to the United Baptist Chamber of Virginia, May 1789

A warning from the Past!

Yet, the freedom given to the Church was not enough, they want it all to create one Christian Religious Theocracy.  One that would be intolerant of other faiths and beliefs.  Christians over time have eroded the barrier between Church and State to pursue their brand of tyrannical biblical law on the people.    Jews, and other faiths, would see a repeat of laws their ancestors had to endure.  Forced conversions, death, or exile.  Which is not new, as the Catholic Church did it to the Serb Orthodox Christians, and others in the Balkans during WWII.

The last Christian Theocracy was tried and tested between 756-1870, and it failed miserably, with it people kept in a continued time-warp of serfdom.

The scholar Martin wrote: The legacy of Pius VII was a terrible one: oppression, surveillance, a dictatorship.  Between 1823 (death of Pius VII) and 1846 (when Pius IX was elected), almost 200,000 citizens of the papal states were severely punished (death, life imprisonment, exile, galleys) for political offences; another 1.5 million were subjected to constant police surveillance and harassment.  There was a gallows permanently in the square of every town and city and village.  Railways, meetings of more than three people, and all newspapers were forbidden.  All books were censored.  A special tribunal sat permanently in each place to try, condemn, and execute the accused.  All trials were conducted in Latin.  Ninety-nine per cent of the accused did not understand the accusations against them.  Every pope tore up the stream of petitions that came asking for Justice, for the franchise, for the reform of the police and prison system.  When revolts occurred in Bologna, in the Romagna, and elsewhere, they were put down with wholesale executions, sentences to lifelong hard labour in the state penitentiary, to exile and torture.  Austrian troops were always being called in to suppress the revolts….[Malachi Martin (1981), Decline and Fall of the Roman Church, p.254, Secker & Warburg, London]  What do you say?
