The word repentance in english has very negative connotations, repent has come to be seen as a kind of groveling, self hate, guilt,
the word repentance is translated from the hebrew word Teshuva which means a return to.
A turning away from something and a turning towards something better.
It means liberating yourself from something binding you.
Cosmically is implies that you’ve descended into something and you seek to ascend back towards where you came from. When a person does teshuva with the intention of ascension their past sins or trials become personal strengths. This process will leave with you feelings of victory, love, and compassion not guilt and self hate.
We should spend all our days in teshuva, seeking to be one with the God we descended from. Teshuva is something we need to be doing with joy and gratitude knowing that God has given us opportunity to be elevated or reconciled with God which is a blessing of hope.
this is not a punishment or a shameful process. this is a process that ends up in a victory. This is why God delights in repentance because it allows Him to help us become the greatest versions of ourselves.
Teshuva is not just a feeling it is an action of overcoming, of positive change.
Teshuva looks like a hero returning home after his successful journey rather than one groveling for forgiveness.
When you come across the word repent you can replace it with the words turning towards something better or returning to God.
Why would learning more about what the meaning of repentance be important?
