Dems, GOP agree to ban devices that alter firearms in Indiana

Republicans and Democrats in the state don’t generally see eye-to-eye on legislation concerning firearms, but they did agree on one issue.

The Indiana senate voted 45 to 4 to ban so-called Glock switches, devices that turn semi-automatic weapons into machine guns.

They can be easily made on 3-D printers. The Indiana house approved the legislation last month.

State Representative Mitch Gore, a Democrat who’s also a captain in the Marion County sheriff’s department, said the devices create situations where police officers are outgunned.

They’re banned under federal law. The state ban allows local prosecutors to charge people with violations, rather than federal prosecutors.
