My personal position is that Jesus of Nazareth is a fictional character, not based on a real person but entirely fabricated in Rome following the siege of Jerusalem by (and ascent to the title of Imperator of) Caesar Vespasianus. But for the purposes of this OP, for the sake of argument, I’m going to accept that Jesus of Nazareth was a real person whose life and times were accurately described by the New Testament.
Now… did Jesus fulfil any Messianic prophesies?
Here are some key features of messianic-age prophesies in the Old Testament, indicators of the messianic age:
There would ALWAYS be a king on the throne in Israel, and those kings would always be from the ever-enduring family of David.
There would ALWAYS be Levite priests in Israel, offering, among other things, burnt offerings upon the altar (housed by a rebuilt temple)
Jerusalem would be safe
There would be World peace
The whole World would know God
But here’s the thing: if Jesus was the Messiah then we ought to see him sitting on a throne in Israel (which never happened)… also, Israel should to this day have an unbroken line of kings (but it’s not a monarchy)… also, there should never have been something like the siege of Jerusalem in 70AD and the destruction of the temple seals the deal… not to mention that the World is still blighted by wars and there’s no theological agreement to be found.
So… here’s a challenge to all Christians:
Can you find a single messianic prophecy from the OT (please, no Gish gallops with dozens of silly claims, pick your single best example) that Jesus of Nazareth fulfilled?
