The Free Will Or Robot Fallacy.

When asked why God put the forbidden tree in the garden, one of the most common explanations was that God didn’t want robots.  Seems that the forbidden tree and free will go together.  But, this makes no sense.

Adam & Eve had only two purposes, tend the garden and have sex.  That is why they were put there.  Since they were able decide whether to listen to God or the only other voice around, they had free will.  They were not forced into their actions.

Since they already had free will and their only purpose was gardening and sex, why the tree test?   Adam & Eve were not robots before eating the fruit, so why the claim that they would have been so if they didn’t snack on the fruit?

They clearly had free will, and without the tree, they would have done what God made them for.  Was God incompetent?  Was God a sadistic meanie, setting them up?  Or, is it some lame attempt to explain away a totally silly story?
