Queen Victoria was buried with a coffin load of goodies. Many highly personal items, and a ton of jewelry. Rings on every finger, bracelets up both arms, layers of necklaces. Screw her children, she was taking every bit of expensive bling with her. Could have been used and enjoyed by her children, sold by them to help financially, or put in a museum for others to enjoy and admire. But no. All just sitting with dead Victoria.
Not just Vicky, but anyone. Is it right to take valuables with you to the grave? For regular people, is it okay to renege on a promise to do so? “Granny loved that diamond necklace, but it would also pay off the house. She can take a copy.”
What about the rich? Is it right to take to the grave valuables that could help others? Should there be a time limit? “Granny has had those diamonds long enough. Time to dig them up.” No problem with pharaohs and ancient Vikings.
Should you be able to take goodies with you forever? Should your relatives ignore the request? Should you be able to retrieve something from a relative`s grave? Should kings and queens be allowed to take such treasure with them to the grave?
