The United States will invest $3 billion in the vaccine supply chain within the coming weeks, White House coronavirus response coordinator Jeff Zients said Thursday.
The investment, he said during a news briefing, will allow manufacturers to add new production lines and facilities and fulfill President Biden’s pledge to be the “arsenal of vaccines for the world.” Officials called vaccination essential as the delta variant drives a spike in coronavirus cases, including among children.
In one welcome development, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky said new research indicates there is not increased disease severity in children.
