Indiana health officials Friday confirmed the nation’s third vaping-related death and federal officials said a fourth possible death is under investigation.
The latest confirmed death is of a person older than 18, said the Indiana State Department of Health, which provided no additional details because of privacy laws. The state is investigating another 30 cases of “severe lung injury linked to vaping.” Eight have been confirmed, with the majority involving people ages 16-29.
“The tragic loss of a Hoosier and rising number of vaping-related injuries are warnings that we cannot ignore,” said State Health Commissioner Dr. Kris Box.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, and other state officials also updated reporters Friday on investigations into cases of pulmonary disease among people who use e-cigarettes.
