Man is introspective- we’re stuck on ourselves (and this ol’ world). The Lord Jesus’s model prayer from Matthew 6 and Luke 11 elevates God the Father, yet asks him to stoop down to be with us.
Our Father which art in heaven-
God is otherworldly- in some manner, above and beyond us and this planet.
Hallowed be thy name-
He is the uncreated One. Separate.
Thy kingdom come-
We ask that he move in our direction.
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven-
We ask that he reveal himself to us.
Give us this day our daily bread-
We ask for his supplication.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors-
We acknowledge our sin, and ask for his mercy.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil-
We ask that he deliver us from wanderlust.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
‘I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.’
Prayer is simple- it looks outward, away to our God. Prayer centers our lives in him, that he center his life in us. Prayer is unity in the life of Christ.
Where are you with God- above, below, or with him?
Do you talk at him, about him, or with him?
