Soft tissue in dinosaur fossils supports the Biblical age of earth.

A recent argument for a young earth and one considered to be a clincher by the young earthists is the discovery of soft tissue in dinosaur fossils dating back 75 plus million years. Soft tissue can’t last this long, only a million years, so, say the YECs, the dinosaur fossils must be much younger. You’ll note that even this doesn’t support their view that the universe is less than 10,000 years old, 6000 years plus a few if we go by the generations in the Bible.

Since the discovery of this soft (microscopic) tissue scientists have been working to understand how it has lasted so long. Research, headed by Mary Schweitzer, a molecular paleontologist at North Carolina State University, explains how proteins — and possibly even DNA — can survive millennia.

Schweitzer told LiveScience:

What we found was unusual, because it was still soft and still transparent and still flexible… The problem is, for 300 years, we thought, ‘Well, the organics are all gone, so why should we look for something that’s not going to be there?’ and nobody looks

The solution is that the iron in the body bonds to and locks up the tissue molecules, preventing them from decay. Schweitzer said

The free radicals cause proteins and cell membranes to tie in knots. They basically act like formaldehyde.

Formaldehyde, of course, preserves tissue. It works by linking up, or cross-linking, the amino acids that make up proteins, which makes those proteins more resistant to decay.
