A famous verse, an ‘essence of our faith’ verse, for Christians is John 3:16.
“For God so loved the world,” it begins, “that he gave his only son…”
So… famous discussion for English-speaking Christians… the word ‘love’ is a pretty general one for us, filling lots of cracks in the language. Mothers love their children. Friends love each other. Lovers love each other. Gluttons love their dessert. Patriots love their country. The Greeks got a little more specfic, having several more words to signify different types of love… and the one used in this verse is ‘agape’. (I will leave it to you to look up, if you are curious as to it’s meaning… my impression is it doesn’t make understanding the idea of God’s love any easier.)
Anyway… my question is
What does God’s love, as stated in John 3:16, mean to you? How do you understand it?
