19 Years ago to this day, beginning at 8:46am, American Airlines Flight 11 slammed into the northern facade of the North Tower. At 9:03am, United Airlines Flight 175 slammed into the southern facade of the South Tower. At 9:37am, American Airlines Flight 77 flew into the western facade of the Pentagon. At 10:03am, brave passengers rushed Al Quaeda terrorists which subsequently led to United Airlines Flight 93 going down in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, in a field in Stonycreek Township.
Whether they were unfortunate victims stuck in the World Trade Center (opting to either take the plunge or go down with the building) or First Responders who set aside their own regard in the mission to save others, 2,947 (not including the 19 terrorist hijackers) souls woke up that day, a normal Tuesday by any measure, only to not return home that evening.
On this “Profiles in Courage,” let us all take a moment to reflect on that day (or learn more about 9/11 if you were too young or not born at that time). Let us all remember how we came together as a nation after this terrorist attack.
