Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America
September 23, 2020
Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Honoring All Veterans Act (H.R. 3010), introduced by Representatives Kathleen Rice (NY-04) and Brian Mast (FL-18), to revise the mission statement for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to be more inclusive of women and LGBTQ veterans and their surviving family members. The bill passed unanimously by a voice vote.
When #IAVA launched the #SheWhoBorneTheBattle campaign back in 2017, it faced strong opposition from many including President Trump, two VA Secretaries, most of the legacy veterans service organizations and even some veterans.
We thank everyone who has worked on this change and to shepherd this bill to success in the House but we aren’t finished yet. Now it’s time for the US Senate to step up. This is the right thing to do. In fact it’s long overdue. If you are reading this you can help! Please write your Senator and tell them we need to change the VA Motto now!
