Cuomo says no to lifting curfew for restaurants and bars on Super Bowl Sunday

ALBANY (WRGB) – – – Several restaurants and bars normally look forward to Super Bowl Sunday, but this year’s 10PM curfew has some dreading it.

Chris Pratt, Co-Owner of the Pearl Street Pub, says “I really do understand the logic I guess initially behind closing the bars earlier. I don’t believe 10 o’clock was the right time.”

Sunday’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will extend past curfew, forcing establishments to shut off their big screens and kick people out at halftime.

After several pleas to the state, Governor Cuomo announced on Friday lifting the curfew was out of the question.

It’s disappointing because I really thought that the governor would show a little lenience for the whole state and allow us to at least stay open until the end of the game,” said Pratt.

In Western New York, over 90 bars and restaurants will remain open past halftime after suing the state over the indoor dining curfew.
