Last year, multiple media outlets, including the New York Times, reported that Russia paid Afghan militants bounties to kill U.S troops. At the time, Democrats and their allies in the media jumped on the story to attack former president Donald Trump. During one of the presidential debates, Joe Biden said Trump was “unwilling to take on Putin when he’s actually paying bounties to kill American soldiers in Afghanistan.”
As it turns out, however, U.S. intelligence officials have “low to moderate confidence” the reports are true, according to the Biden administration. Now, some in the media are walking back the allegations.
“It looks as though in this case, Trump might have had the right response,” CNN’s Jake Tapper said.
