When discussing YHWH worship of all forms, the conversation often touches on human rights.
Here are some of the silliest things that the “we love YHWH” camp sometimes produce (paraphrased with my – ahem – unique spin… because – why wouldn’t I?):
“If you’re an atheist then you don’t believe in human rights”
“The notion of human rights came from the tradition of [my flavour of] YHWH worship”
“We have rights because YHWH gave us them”
“We have rights on account of the YHWH in us that HE put there when He made us”
“Without YHWH worship it’d be a free-for-all and YOU would have no rights; be grateful to [my flavour of] YHWH worship”
Now… just to be clear, since it doesn’t seem obvious to everybody, human rights are a social construct and are only as good as humans’ willingness to respect and defend them.
But there’s a point that I would like to bring up against YHWHists of the “and YHWH will continue loving (or torturing) you forever” varieties of YHWHism… whilst I would, too, like to arm my fellow “this YHWH worship is dangerous nonsense” folk with it that they may take the meme and use it to their own satisfaction and, hopefully, good effect.
And that point is this:
“But according to YOU, there is not a single human being on Earth with the right not to be tortured for all eternity!”
So… if you’re a YHWH worshiper who has ever repeated anything like those five silly statements, how do you answer that point? I mean… talk about the MOST BASIC of human rights… not to be tortured has to be RIGHT up there.
And if you’re not a fantasist, have you ever heard anything like one of those potty statements? Do you like this response? Do you think it undermines the YHWHist’s position?
