Is Christianity a delusional cult?

Approved ~ Løki

I was just watching a wonderful video from the informative YouTube channel ReligionForBreakfast (check it out if you don’t know it and are interested in that sort of thing).

I took a screenshot (which I’ll use as the header for this post) because a certain passage caught my eye. I’ll type it here for those who may struggle to read it from the image:

I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will.

I’d put the quote in red letters, if I could… because these words were said to have been said by Jesus (a character I personally believe was made up).

Oh, the click-baity title? Ha! Okay, look, words are just words… don’t take offence:
Delusional: characterized by or holding idiosyncratic beliefs or impressions that are contradicted by reality or rational argument
Cult: a system of religious veneration and devotion directed towards a particular figure or object.

I would argue (perhaps for fun) that this quotation, in saying that God WILLS to HIDE things from the “wise and understanding”… means that, by Jesus’ own admission, there’s no good evidence or rational argument to be found for “these things” (but if you accept Jesus’ words you have to believe in them)… if there were (evidence or argument), they would not be hidden from the wise and understanding, now, would they?

So do you agree with me that if Jesus’ words here are true… then Christianity is a delusional cult?

Or perhaps you think that there’s good reason to think Christianity a delusional cult whether or not one takes the words attributed to Jesus as gospel truth… I don’t know.

Answer however you see fit (including having a fit of apoplexy over my use of language and calling me an angry idiot, if you please, it won’t offend or upset me – although it would technically be against the rules here):
IS Christianity a delusional cult?

(btws the context is miracles saving cities from hell, so I’ll happily talk about the wider context of the quote if anybody so desires)
