Following a recent OP on the topic, I did a little bit of research. It’s not detailed… it’s not rigorous… it’s not conclusive… but it IS suggestive.
Here’s what I did…
I went to Wikipedia to get a list of countries by religiosity:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Importance_of_religion_by_country
Then I found a source listing the countries which had embraced gay marriage:
https://www.businessinsider.com/where-is-same-sex-marriage-legal-world-2017-11?r=US&IR=T
Then I went down the list of countries in a spreadsheet and put the order of their adopting gay marriage against each country (the two lists don’t entirely marry up – eg, [“UK”] vs [“England and Wales” and “Scotland”])… but… with a little finesse, here’s what I got:

And I noticed… that ALL of the countries that had embraced gay marriage were in the least religious 55% of the World.
That is to say that the most religious 45% of countries do not allow gay marriage. Not a single one of the most religious countries in the World allows it. Brazil is the most religious country in the World to allow gay marriage… and Estonia is the least religious country to not allow it.
Other than the outliers, though, don’t you think this paints a picture and tells a story?
I know that correlation and causation aren’t the same thing…
What do YOU think… do you think that there is a causal relationship between “religion” and bigotry against homosexuals?
Or… perhaps you think that gay marriage is an abomination (possibly even responsible for hurricanes or pandemics) and that it’s a damned good thing that it’s banned in religious countries, and you wish more countries were religious…
I don’t know… but please, share your thoughts.
