Marriage and religion

In a recent OP on the topic of gay marriage and “religion” (basically, Yahweh-worship)… some folk thought it appropriate to share a sentiment that I’ve heard expressed many times before:

Gay marriage weakens and cheapens the institution of [YHWH-ordained] marriage.

It is, when you think about it a little, simply cheap rhetoric: nobody who promotes that stupid idea ever provides any rational explanation as to what they mean, or in what practical way this might be so…

And it got me to thinking…

POINT 1
Many animals form strong emotional bonds in mating pairs; not only is this true today, there’s evidence that it has been the case since before mankind even evolved (and certainly before the Bible was written).

POINT 2
The notion of marriage in the Bible is ****ing disgusting. It starts with the premise that little girls (even as they mature into adults) belong to their fathers… then, one day, their father sells them to a husband. Oh, sure, Christians will just hand-wave all that away as being “OLD testament, dude”… as well they might… it’s not a particularly nice idea… in fact, the OT is so ****ed up that it basically says that if a man rapes a woman who is owned by her father at the time… the rapist has to pay the father and marry the rape victim. This is LITERALLY treating women as objects… it’s like you damaged some item in a shop and the shop then has the right to make you pay for it. SICK.

Point 3
Even if we ignore all the horror of the OT, the NT is almost as ****ed up. Specifically, on the topic of marriage, the NT commands that wives should be subservient to their husbands in all things.

Side-point: it is my view (and one shared by a significant number of people nowadays) that a marriage should be a union of equal parts. The best marriages, I would say, are exactly this way.

Conclusion:
If anything weakens and cheapens the institution of marriage, it is “religion”.

So… cast your votes, please, on this, the question I address to you all today:

Which of the following cheapens marriage the most?

A) A society allowing homosexual couples to marry
B) A society promoting “holy books” which suggest that a wife is a subordinate thing
