Grrrggnk Discovers The Origins of Hell: A Play In Two Scenes
Characters
Grrrggnk: Hunter & Father
Musnonni: Horticulturalist & Mother
SplangX: Their Son, of school age
mis en scene, I: Grrrggnk is out with the menfolk, hunting for dinosaurs.
It’s Mittag, so idle time…Grrrggnk goes walk-about, but at a gentle lope.
The lope covers more ground of course, and by now, many spears’ lengths from his brothers, he spots a shimmer in the distance.
Coming closer, he sees a huge crack in Earth,
…poring down, our Grrrggnk sees a river of flowing molten lava…
…pouring down, down, down a subterranean channel into a burning Lake of Fire.
Scene II
Coming home, Grrrggnk greets his wife, Musnonni, and their son, SplangX.
Musnonni: SplangX naughty this day, Grrrggnk. Not eat his carrots.
Grrrggnk: Come here, SplangX? [loudly]
SplangX: Here, Father
Grrrggnk: If there’s any more of this not-eating-your-carrots nonsense, I shall cast thee into the River of Fire, from thence thou shalt be borne unto the burning Lake of Fire, and live the endless days of your Eternal Life there.
SplangX: No…no [in terror] Dad don’t send me unto the Lake of Fire…I’ll eat me carrots, promise.
- How could any miss how the idea of Hell came about, if not by a variation on this parody?
- Or do think early humans [and earlier hominids] saw no significance in the lava?
- Is Grrrggnk’s instilling a fear of Hell into his son, SplangX? Would Grrrggnk’s parenting skills benefit from an upgrade?
- How does the referenced URL proving–unnecessarily, as it turns out–the existence of Hell fit with your understanding?
