Transsexuals want to reclaim the narrative on gender dysphoria as a meaningful diagnosis from radical transgender activists who wish to eradicate it and other so-called “barriers” to sex change services.
In an open letter to 29 major medical organizations based in the U.S., a group of transsexuals (a term they prefer) belonging to the Gender Dysphoria Alliance (GDA) called for a shift toward evidence-based care and a rejection of ideologically and politically-driven narratives.
“Activists have created confusion about what ‘trans’ is by couching it in an academic theory that deliberately obscures any definitive categories,” the letter continues. “In addition, they employ intimidation campaigns against any individual or organization that seeks clarity.”
With the broadening of criteria, more children are in danger of becoming lifelong medical patients who might otherwise have outgrown their gender-related distress. There is evidence that roughly 60–90% of children who identify as transgender, but do not socially or medically transition will no longer identify as transgender in adulthood, and many will grow up to be gay adults.
