The phrase “protect the children” is a long known trope, used in both serious and comedic settings, and ultimately underlies a lot of cultures’ policies. But do we have agreement on what that phrase means? What actions protect children, and what is threatening them?
Some examples from liberals include protecting children from starvation and poverty, as well as from violence. Some examples from conservatives include protecting their free expression and, contradictorily, shielding them from what they perceive to be harmful free expression of others.
I would request that you debate the meaning of protection and threats from your perspective, instead of assuming ones from other posters. That way we can have a debate about actually expressed ideas, rather than stereotypes or previously indicated stances like the above.
