Saturday night shooting marks DC’s 250th homicide in 2023, most in over 2 decades

WASHINGTON (7News) — Following a deadly shooting in Northeast D.C. Saturday night, the District has now reached a grim milestone on the year: 250 homicides around the city.

Just after 9 p.m. on Saturday, Fifth District officers responded to the 1300 block of Florida Avenue, Northeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, police located a man, later identified as 34-year-old Daniel Lamont Adams, of Southeast, D.C., suffering from gunshot wounds, police said.

Adams was transported to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries, according to police.

Upon further investigation, detectives determined the shooting occurred in the 1700 block of Benning Road, Northeast.

The city’s 250 homicides this year are the most in over two decades. Back in 2002, D.C. recorded 262 homicides.
