At least ten people were killed and 30 others injured in a shooting at a university in Prague Thursday — where young people seeking cover were huddled on the scaffolding of the building and under lockdown in classrooms, officials said.
The shooting broke out at Charles University’s Faculty of Arts near the Czech capital’s Old Town, which is a popular tourist destination, the Prague police said on X.
A few moments later, the authorities confirmed that the shooter had been “eliminated” but that there were “several” dead and injured victims on the scene.
There were no immediate details about the victims or the shooter.
The philosophy department of the university, which is located in Jan Palach Square, was evacuated, Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda said.
Sirens and police vehicles surrounded the campus building while onlookers looked panicked and tried to flee, social media videos showed.
