Adriana Ruano Oliva’s performance in the women’s trap final at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 will go down in history as she became Guatemala’s first ever Olympic gold medallist, setting an Olympic record in the process with a final score of 45.
The win comes in the wake of her male counterpart, Jean Pierre Brol Cardenas, who took bronze in the men’s trap final on Tuesday 30 July, taking their county’s second ever Olympic medal. Oliva is the first woman from the nation to medal.
“I can’t even believe it’s for real. I’m so happy. I’m honoured to be here, and it wasn’t easy to get here again. I want to thank Guatemala, and also my father,” she said after taking the gold.
