FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The 101st Airborne Division’s 101st Combat Aviation Brigade “Wings of Destiny” will deploy to US Central Command, covering the Middle East.
They will replace the 10th Mountain Division’s Combat Aviation Brigade in a one-for one replacement, according to a news release from the Department of the Army. CENTCOM covers areas throughout the Middle East.
“The Wings of Destiny brigade is ready to answer the nation’s call,” said Col. Tyler Partridge, commander of the 101st CAB. “Our soldiers work every day to expertly employ aircraft in support of the ground force, and we will continue to do so wherever the mission takes us.”
The 101st Airborne is a part of the Army’s effort to pioneer the evolution of vertical envelopment with modern equipment and well-trained soldiers, and to prepare the nation to win in any future military combat environment or conflict, the release said.
The 101st Airborne Division is made up of roughly 25,000 soldiers divided primarily into three Brigade Combat Teams of roughly 3,500 soldiers each and a helicopter-based aviation brigade:
- 1st Brigade Combat Team, “Bastogne”
- 2nd Brigade Combat Team, “Strike”
- 3rd Brigade Combat Team, “Rakkasans”
- 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, “Wings of Destiny”
- 101st Artillery, “Guns of Glory”
- 101st Headquarters and Headquarter Battalion, “Gladiators”
- 101st Sustainment Brigade, “Lifeliners”
