Of all the “leopards ate my face” stories we’ve reported on so far, this one is by far the saddest. But feeling bad for people who are ignorant only goes so far. It’s your duty to be informed about who and what you’re voting for.
So let me get it out of the way: I feel bad that these people are going to be negatively affected by their presidential votes for Trump. I just don’t feel bad that they were too dumb to know what they were doing.
You see, there was a whole cross-section of Trump voters who wanted Trump to win so he would get rid of Obamacare. They’re still mad that Obama was even president, let alone that there’s still a law with his name on it.
Of course, Obamacare isn’t the legal name for the law. It’s the Affordable Care Act, and many if not most of them have been enjoying the benefits of that law for more than a decade. You can’t get rid of Obamacare and keep the ACA — that’s like shutting down Chevy but thinking you can still buy yourself a Chevrolet.
During his 2024 campaign, Trump repeatedly promised to replace Obamacare — never calling it by its legal name so he can keep the name “Obama” attached to it and piss off the voters who still hate that guy — with something cheaper and “better.” He’s promised that in the past and never lifted a finger to do anything about it but repeal the law without a replacement ready.
