Naval Academy can consider race in admissions, judge rules

Why it matters: When the Supreme Court overturned affirmative action at colleges last year, it exempted military academies from the decision. The lawsuit fromStudents for Fair Admissions (SFFA) sought to extend the decision to the storied academy.

The big picture: U.S. Senior District Judge Richard Bennett rejected the challenge, writing in a 179-page decision that the school had established that a diverse officer corps is a matter of national security.
